剧情简介
绮勋（韩石圭饰）是名出色的刑警，然而在私人生活却没有着到道德之外的选择：他在妻子之外还有着一个热辣的情人。妻子秀贤（严智媛饰）端庄优雅、温柔贤惠，酒吧歌手佳喜（李恩珠饰）充满着诱惑力。她们撑起了他生活的另一面。一天他接到任务调查照相馆主人凶杀案，死者妻子庆熙（成贤娥饰）成为最具嫌疑的人选，然而这个女人却自有一股难言的魅力，他感到自己已经沉醉其中。
绮勋因为妻子原因，想和佳喜一刀两断而难断。而佳喜将绮勋的爱当作唯一的信念，当绮勋提出分手时，她陷入了绝望痛苦，她什么都不要，只要他的心。背后的真相扑朔迷离，暴风雨即将来临。
影片的名字与世界名著纳撒尼尔·霍桑的小说同名，导演边赫表示，两者在题材上有相关性，都是关于人的欲望的故事，此外没有一点关系。他还谈到，这部电影虽然通过一个男人的经历，讲了三个女人的爱情故事，但真正想讲的不是爱情，而是人的贪欲。
电影画面的剪接和情节的衔接都做的相当精彩，故事的一切都是围绕刑警基勋展开的。他所调查的案子，他的妻子，他的婚外情，全部都交织在一起。犯罪，同性恋，性，也都交织在一起。一切的核心就是让人难以招架的诱惑。也许这类剧情片并不具备广泛的代入意义，我们并不一定能将片子里的角色和身边的人对上号，但是在电影里的激情场面结束后，让人有一种隐隐的失落，就仿佛跟片子里脱光了衣服的主人公一样，当所有的真相也变得赤裸后，我们虽然看清了但是也只剩下了无力感。
